Did You know...

*Kieren Perkins' average speed over 1500m at the 1992 Olympics in his world and Olympic record was just 10% slower than the winner of the 200m race.

*With his lead off 100m time in the 1500m, Kieren would have won the 100m gold at every Olympics until 1964. He would have also with his 200m split won the 200m till 1976, and the 400m with his 400m split till 1988.

*In 1994 at the world swimming championships, the women's 50m final was held immediately before the men's 1500m. Interestingly, Kieren Perkins' split for his first 50m (of the 1500m race) would have got him a medal in the women's 50m! In addition, Kieren's splits in his 1994 1500m freestyle world record swim would have won gold medals in the women's 100, 200, 400 and of course 800m freestyle at the 1998 world championships.

*In his 14:43.80 1500m Olympic victory in 1992, Kieren would have beaten the aggregate time of the first 15 winners of the 100m freestyle (1896-1964) by 37.5 seconds!

*When Kieren broke both the 800m and 1500m freestyle world records in the one 1500m race at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, he was the first swimmer in 45 years to break 2 world records in the one swim. No one has done it since, either.

*It is interesting to see the statistics of the 1500m Olympic finals Kieren participated in. Kieren was the only finallist in the 1500m freestyle from Atlanta 1996 to make the final again at the 2000 Olympics. The silver and bronze medallists from 1996 failed to even qualify for the Sydney Olympics in this event. Of course Kieren was also the only Barcelona 1992 finallist in this event to make the Sydney 2000 final. Add to this the fact that Kieren won the golds in this event in 1992 and 1996 and the silver in 2000 and you have some idea of the awesomeness of this feat. Not only this but Kieren has held, and continues to hold the 1500m freestyle world record continuously since well before the 1992 Olympics, and still holds the 1500m Olympic Record he set in 1992.
