The world's premier distance swimmer. The Commonwealth, Pan Pacific, World and Olympic champion for 1500m freestyle. The world record holder for 400, 800m and 1500m freestyle. Had to draw on all his ability just to make the Olympic team after an out of character Trials which saw him finish third in the 400m freestyle and fail to qualify for the 200m freestyle final. The eyes of the nation were on Perkins on the final night of the trials when he finished second to Daniel Kowalski in the 1500m final. Subsequent tests have shown a chemical imbalance with his iron stores was the probably cause of his problems. Will only contest the 1500m in Atlanta.
